Hip Hip Hooray!

Isn't he gorgeous?!? Lots of fun too. He's just a little waif, but he's fast. He's different than my Masi. Masi is comfy and rides hard, but this little guy...I'm still a little nervous on him. That just means I have to spend lots of time on him to get the feel.

Oh, and a nice little surprise when I arrive to pick him up... Dan hands me an aero helmet and says "Some dude called in and bought this for you. I don't know who it was. Bob took the call." After some probing, I found out it was Rob. (thanks again, Rob!)

So, I took the boy out for a quick spin last night. Just a few miles as it was all my legs could handle after the weekend. And, when you only get one "recovery" (ie- just 3k swim) day a week, you tend to take full advantage of it. I was hoping to take the new toy out to Cleves tonight for the TT, but it's looking like the severe weather will still be in affect. (Or not? Seems every time i blog about how crappy the weather is acting, it clears up in time for me to ride after work). If I can't ride it, I'll be on the trainer for a couple hours. Fun times.

In other news, the tri on Sunday was fun. I just did the bike leg of the sprint relay. We took first.

There was a whole group from our Masters swim team there. Here they are, minus me. I think I was off talking somewhere. OOps.

And then, I went and did my workout for the day. 2x bike run. And I was grateful to put the compression tights on for bed...

Bad drivers and good deliveries

Ok, so I've had my fair share (or more) of accidents. I am not a very good driver...
BUT I'VE NEVER HIT A CYCLIST!!!

I was on my way back into town on my two-hour ride last night, cruising along in aero at about 20mph. I was thinking about how now that all these doctor bills are beginning to pour in, I need to send him a text and let him know that he needs to start paying me back for my half of the deposit on the summer place...even if it's just $50 a week.

Anyway, I was out on 52, just before New Richmond, heading back towards downtown…probably 15 miles out. Dude was in the opposing lane, getting ready to turn left into the gas station on my right. I see him try and judge whether he can make it before I get there. I was about 30 ft away and growing ever closer, when HE DECIDED TO GO FOR IT!!!

I saw it all going down and in my head, I already saw myself splayed on the road with internal injuries and a busted skull. I rocket launched outta aero and gripped the brakes so hard I was skidding all over. Luckily, he realized his misjudgement hit his brakes too. We collided right at the entrance to the Marathon station. His grill just hit my left leg and hand. It knocked me out of my cleats and I somehow caught myself before I went flying on the road. I was yelling profanities and going nuts and he didn’t apologize or anything…just pulled into the gas station and parked...

Just then, two young kids pile out of the back seat. He had yet to emerge from the SUV. He may very well have been coming over to say something to me, but what was going to occur? I wasn’t hurt and neither was the bike and I knew I was so pissed that nothing nice was going to come out of my mouth, so I figured it was better to just ride off. I did yell at the kids to not take driving lessons from their father.

I was shaken, but fortunately, not harmed. And neither was my bike!

I rode the remainder of the way home and went out for a 20 minute T-run. Felt great.

After sleeping in my compression tights, I got up for an hour run with pick-ups and a huge amount of gratitude that it's Friday. I make my way into work and arrive to a flood on my desk. Apparently, our roof has a leak...right over my desk. And we had major storms last night. I tried the old "well, looks like I can't work...guess I should just go home" trick, but it didn't work. Facilities maintenance came and cleaned it all up and some dumbass had actually covered my computer and monitor with plastic!

I finally got logged in and see that I have a note from the secretary. I have a package!!!

My new Zoot running shoes, LG tri suit, Speedo, a bike jersey and nutrition arrived. Yay for new gear!! Can't wait to try it all out...the tri suit may get a run through at the Caesar Creek Oly next weekend.

Have a great weekend all!

coming into focus

With IM cali 70.3 quickly approaching, training hours are taking a dip. Just 8 hours this week. But it's eight hours of the good stuff. I'm fresher than I've been in months and my body is getting rest between the more intense training sessions.

Tuesday morning was Masters practice. Aaron had fun with us. We started with 8x25 on :30, odds were streamline kick, evens were swim. I made the kick interval for the first time!!! Then came the fun, 8x25 on :30, odds were double armed backstroke and evens were opposing stroke and kick (ie - breast stroke with flutter kick or back stroke with breast kick...) just to get our heart rates up. HA HA HA!!! There is a reason I run and bike...I am not very coordinated.

We moved on to our main set of 12x100 (4 w/pull gear on 1:30, 4 swim on 1:25, 4 w/fins on 1:20). I was the only one in my lane to make all the intervals!! Next up was 3x(200 non-free swim on 3:40, 100 easy free on 2:00). Fun day for training and the guys all make it worth getting up at 4:30 am.

I didn't get much sleep Monday night due to some personal conflicts, so I went home Tuesday and just sat with the pup and watched the storm roll in. The weather is beginning to get warm and it's really beautiful this time of year.

I got up at 5am this morning for a short brick...and to try out my new Zoot shoes. Riding was on the trainer (blech...) but it went well and then off for a transition run in the rain! And i could feel that I haven't been killing myself the last few days. My legs felt good. My steps were quick and light and the new shoes? Incredible!

Now, looking forward to swimming in my new Splish suit that came yesterday :)
